The Screen Actors Guild Foundation celebrated the work of over 250 young newly published authors at the eight annual We The Children event on June 12, 2007. A grant from the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dearlers made this all possible! Celebrities including Fox11 anchor Christine Divine, Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), Wanda De Jesus (CSI: Miami, Flawless), Pamela Reed (Kindergarten Cop, Jericho), Cameron Monaghan (Click), Malcolm David Kelley (Lost, You Got Served), Matthew Underwood (Zoey 101) and NBA legend BJ Armstrong joined the SAG Foundation and over 1000 family and community members at the Wilshire Ebell Theater to celebrate these young students’ achievements. 5th grade students from Stoner Elementary, Vine St. Elementary, and Lassen Elementary gathered at the theater to receive recognition for their hard work and time spent writing autobiographical books.

Many thanks to First Book National Book Bank and Random House Children's Books for their generous donation to Minnesota BookPALS. The shipment wasn't expected until mid-summer, but the cartons were delivered to Delta's house on June 8th. Two MN BookPALS offered to hand books out to their students on June 12th, the last day of school in St. Paul. Nearly 300 children were able to go home with a brand new book for the summer!

SCHOOL COMMENTS:
High Point Elementary School
Joel Sloss, Dawn Fischer, Jackie Brown - Teachers
BookPALS Martha Knighton and Jackie Prucha were fabulous, always flexible, and always ready to spend time with the children! The thing we enjoyed most about the BookPALS is how gracious the readers are and how clear it is that they enjoy the children. We would love to have more readers!
