BookPALS, Birthdays and Bancroft School!

Thursday, March 02 2006 @ 03:43 PM EST

Minnesota

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"

That quotation from Dr. Seuss could very well be Minneapolis’ Bancroft Elementary School’s motto. On March 2, 2006, the entire school was involved in one kind of reading activity or another, as they commemorated the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ birthday by participating in the NEA’s Read Across America Day. Throughout the halls, in classrooms and staff offices, there were banners, certificates, baskets of books and silly looking faculty, staff members and BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) darting between classrooms wearing the now-classic red and white stovepipe hats that have come to symbolize reading in the United States.

Bancroft students settle in for a story.

CELEBRATE the NEA'S READ ACROSS AMERICA on March 2, 2006! In the words of NEA President Reg Weaver, "Nothing is more magical than the gift of reading - the simple, yet profound, act that can take us around the world at the turn of a page. Reading opens the doors to achievement, and guiding a child's path through these doors is a responsibility we all share."

BOOKS for MINNESOTA BOOKPALS!

Tuesday, December 06 2005 @ 06:23 PM EST

Minnesota

Minnesota BookPALS has won a grant from First Book National Book Bank and Scholastic for 1,648 books! We will be gifting these books to the kids we read to at our BookPALS schools. Active BookPALS will be able to distrubute the books to the children they work with in their individual classrooms. What a wonderful way to end the year! Special thanks to First Book and Scholastic on behalf of Minnesota BookPALS and the great kids and schools who are a part of our program!
