Las Vegas BookPALS and the Screen Actors Guild Foundation would like to congratulate each of our volunteers who made the 2008-2009 school year so successful. We reached an estimated nine-thousand students through our weekly reading and our numerous special events throughout the year.

Author Lewis Kimberly teamed with BookPALS once again to animate her children's book "Granny McFanny". Actor Leslie Ortega donned a yellow dress with red polka dots, and high heels with ankle socks as she went dancing, skiing, and rodeo riding before students at Myrtle Tate Elementary.

Las Vegas BookPALS took students at four elementary schools on a Dr. Seuss adventure. Students at Kathy Batterman, Vegas Verdes, Ollie Detwiler and Reynoldo Martinez Elementary schools were treated to a reader's theatre version of "The Butter Battle Book".

Actor Lisa Illia roped her cape around her face, only her darkened eyes peered through a small opening. She then drew down her cape to reveal streaks of red rolling down her face, the mouths of her young audience drooped as she opened the book the Five Haunted Houses, and began to read the second story: “Jake stood on the sidewalk all alone. He looked up at the house. A big full moon shone down on it. Jake felt a shiver creep up his spine”.
