Thanks to our good friends at Micheltorena Elementary School for welcoming BookPALS and Screen Actors Guild Foundation Board Member Jerry Penacoli to their school.
Micheltorena Elementary in Silverlake had a special BookPALS visitor on Wednesday January 9th, when EXTRA’s Jerry Penacoli dropped in to read to Mr. Sanchez’s 3rd grade class. Jerry read from Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends as well as Guji Guji, Chih-Yuan Chen’s book about families (and the next book to stream on Storyline Online). Jerry and the students even sang from the book What a Wonderful World.
The students were well prepared for Jerry’s visit, even knowing about his love of painting, and the Q & A at the end of the reading brought forth many engaging questions regarding his job and his art. Touched by all of the attention and eager to share laughs with the students, Jerry finished by staying late to sign autographs.
The event took place to acknowledge SAG Foundation’s BookPALS program, one of the programs benefiting from an auction currently being held on eBay by the SAG Awards™. The weekly auction series features one-of-a-kind SAG Awards™ television and movie memorabilia, red-carpet bleacher seats and VIP backstage tours for this year’s Actors® ceremonies, airing on live television next week. Stay tuned and visit sagawards.org to learn more about this unique benefit auction.
