Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a BookPAL?

  • Fill out this form, or e-mail or call Robin Roy at (323) 549-6709 and tell her you're interested.

What happens next?

  • The branch coordinator closest to you will contact you and send you a reader's packet in the mail.

  • After you've read that, you'll accompany an experienced BookPAL to his or her classroom and observe an "expert" OR attend a new reader workshop. New reader workshops are every two weeks, friday's from 12-1PM.

  • Once we find a school convenient to you, you're ready to start!

What is the time commitment?

  • Each BookPAL "adopts" two classrooms. One day each week, you read to each of them for 30 minutes, back to back. You pick the day and the time.

  • The total time commitment is just one hour per week. In that one hour, you'll be touching the lives of 60 kids.

Yes, I'd like to become a BookPAL!
