Founded on the clear premise that actors, gifted in the art of storytelling, are superbly qualified to bring the magic of books to life, BookPALS brings talent, creativity, and energy to learning!
Established in 1993 by Barbara Bain and the non-profit Screen Actors Guild Foundation, BookPALS forms the core of the Foundation’s award-winning Children’s Literacy Initiative, our in-person and online campaign to encourage young minds toward success in career, life and community – by enhancing their skills of reading, writing, communication and inspiring them with the power of the written word.
Over 2,000 dedicated BookPALS volunteers across the nation serve more than 100,000 preschool to 5th grade students weekly by reading aloud at public schools, hospitals and cultural institutions.
We invite you to read on, find out more, and join the effort to champion children’s literacy!
