Nora Ephron was beloved by so many for so much. Novelist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, director, feminist, pseudo-feminist… She enjoyed compiling lists and to the list of her accomplishments we’d like to add one more: PencilPAL. Nora Ephron was a special friend to the SAG Foundation. PencilPALS makes reading and writing a first-person experience for elementary and middle school children. Each child has an opportunity to write and illustrate his or her own letters and stories. The letters are then mailed to a PencilPAL, a Performing Artist for Literacy in Schools: volunteer performers from the BookPALS program with whom the children can share their thoughts about favorite books and school happenings. June brought exciting pizza parties to two southern California fifth grades and one fourth grade! After corresponding one on one with their PencilPAL adult actor for the school year, students at Robert F.
