Louisa May and Mr. Thoreau's Flute
Written by Julie Dunlap & Marybeth Lorbiecki, illustrated by Mary Azarian
Recommended Ages: 6 7 8
This story takes place in Concord, Massachusetts, when Louisa May ("Louy") was 7. Louisa was having trouble getting her thoughts down on paper. Her father was a writer and wanted her to write a certain way. Then she met Mr. Thoreau (a nearby teacher)...Mr. Thoreau often took the neighborhood children on Field Trips To: Pick huckleberries, Fair Haven Cliffs, Nut Meadow Brook, and Walden Pond. Louisa loved these trips. However, She envied Mr. Thoreau's ability to jot his thoughts down so quickly and play the flute with equal grace...At the first sign of Spring, Louisa has an urge to write--her first poem! *A Caldecott Award Winner!
