Oh, To Be A BookPAL...

Monday, April 03 2006 @ 04:58 PM EDT

Los Angeles

I was worried this morning, wasn't sure I should go, so I ignored any warning and I left, don't you know. In ten minutes time I was at the Library But still somewhat worried, unsure and wary. I saw the sign posted so inside I went. The Librarian smiled at this silly gent. In no time at all, I was in front of a kid with books in my lap, that were white, blue, and red. Then others showed up and we breathed a deep sigh and we read lots of stories, my partner and I. This was my first outing as Pal of a Book But nobody noticed, I just had "that" look. I'm glad that I went now and heard the kids say, "Thank you for reading, and have a nice day." Thanks, Nurit. I hope to do this again soon. Sean, BookPAL

Marlan not only arrived early and stayed late, but she engaged the 6 people who enjoyed her progrm (teachers, parents, and chidlren) but later she took time to talk to the teachers about literature for his class. It was a win/win situation for everyone involved. I would invite her bacl again! Sybi Blazej-Yee, Librarian, Angeles Mesa Library

Mr. LeJon Stewart came to be our BookPAL. Of course, we were surprised that he wasn't the Jon Stewart, Academy Award host. We could always dream, right?
However, we had a great program. Mr. Stewart is on of the pirates from the coming Disney movie "Pirates of the Caribbean II". He is animated, enthusiastic and fun. He shared his passion for reading. Reading led him to his acting career. He inspired kids that everyone could succeed.
Thank you for making all the arrangement. It was good that kids could see and hear from a real movie star.
Lydia Lee, Librarian, Sun Valley Library
