PencilPALS Expands

Monday, July 04 2005 @ 06:03 PM EDT

New York

PencilPALS is a program created by Natalie Rogers, FL BookPALS Coordinator. This was the first year NY actors started writing to fourth graders, and what a valuable program this is!

After a year each of corresponding with an adult PencilPAL, students at PS 24 Queens and PS 255 Brooklyn finally met at special Pizza Party/Reading Events at the end of the year. Teachers, principals, actors, and kids are raving about this mentoring connection--and PencilPALS will keep writing through the summer and beyond. In fall 2005, thanks to a donation we recently received, we'll also expand the program to another Brooklyn school and one in Jamaica, Queens--at schools where we don't currently have enough BookPALS to read weekly. We're looking for this year's PencilPAL actors right now, so if you'd like to make difference right from your own living room (or from on the road if you're a touring actor), call or e-mail and volunteer now! 212-827-1446, [email protected]
