CELEBRATE the NEA'S READ ACROSS AMERICA on March 2, 2006! In the words of NEA President Reg Weaver, "Nothing is more magical than the gift of reading - the simple, yet profound, act that can take us around the world at the turn of a page. Reading opens the doors to achievement, and guiding a child's path through these doors is a responsibility we all share."
Minnesota BookPALS commemorate Dr. Seuss and Read Across America in a big way at the Minnesota State Fair each year. We work together with Education Minnesota to hold a statewide celebration of reading and we pay tribute to Dr. Seuss by wearing Cat in the Hat hats and reading his stories, along with other wonderful children's literature, at the Great Minnesota Get Together.
In March, our BookPALS congratulate our most special people - our young readers and learners, by awarding their students with NEA Read Across America Participation Certificates, and we thank our schools for partnering with us and award them with the NEA's Certificate of Appreciation. And....you might want to look out for a certain coordinator sporting a red and white hat that looks awfully familiar....stopping by your classroom taking pictures and passing out special bookmarks!
