Forty nine students at Catalina Elementary School in Orlando have written, illustrated and published their autobiographies through the SAG Foundation's We the Children program!
Under the guidance of BookPALS and guest authors, the children interviewed their parents and other family members. For many, it was the first time they spoke to their parents about their family's history. They gained a a new appreciation for their families and a sense of pride in who they are and where they come from. Congratulations to each of them!
Finished books were bound and embossed and include a photo and personal biography of the child/author. Two copies of each book was published: one for the child to take home and share with his/her friends and family, and one for the school library, where the books are being honored and housed as a testament to their creativity and ability to communicate their stories. Not only have the children learned the value of books through this program, but also they've learned the importance of their own stories. Sharing their stories affords each child a sense of pride in his or her own life.
