Volunteers beat the heat today travelling to the YAI Forest Hills, Queens facility. BookPALS partnered with MOMA teaching artist Shellyn Rodriguez to discover how to incorporate the visual arts into the read aloud. Volunteers explored the work of Jacob Lawerence, a celebrated African-Amercian modern painter featured at MOMA and the imagery shown in Christopher Meyer’s “WINGS”. PencilPALS Celebrate Reading, Writing, and the Forging of New Friendships

The year end PencilPALS party at Princeton Elementary was a huge hit! Students got to meet their PencilPALS in person after writing all year long. The event featured a PencilPALS puzzler (students had to guess their PencilPAL from a “lineup”, using a written, physical description), a recitation of the Writer’s Oath, a special sharing of a wordless picture book, and some Storyline Online readings!
